A recent graduate of Voci Verdiane - Fondazione Arturo Toscanini of Parma, Italian tenor Giuseppe Varano made his professional debut in 2002-2003 as Alfredo in La Traviata in Busseto directed by Franco Zeffirelli. In the 2009-2010 season he made debuts with Oper Leipzig as Rodolfo in La bohème and the Savonlinna Opera Festival as Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly. In concert, he performed Verdi’s Requiem with the Helsingborg Symphony in Sweden. In the 2010-2011 season, Mr. Varano will make his US debut with Madison Opera as Alfredo in La Traviata, he will return to Oper Leipzig for La bohème, and he will make his Oper Graz debut in La Traviata. Future engagements include his Pittsburgh Opera debut as Alfredo in La Traviata, his Opera Colorado debut as Roméo in Roméo et Juliette, his debut in Dusseldorf as Rodolfo, and the role of Macduff in a new production of Macbeth with Oper Leipzig.
In January 2008-2009 Mr. Varano inaugurated the season in Rimini as Rodolfo in La bohème at the Auditorium Palacongressi, a role he later repeated in Messina and Montreal, before finishing the season as Pinkerton at the Teatro Comunale di Bologna. He has sung Donizetti’s Edgardo with the Stagione Lirica Regionale dell’Umbria, Teatro Morlacchi in Perugia, Teatro degli Illuminati in Citta di Castello, Teatro Verdi in Trieste, Liryck Teather in Assisi and the Teatro Comunale of Todi. In 2007 he debuted the role of Pinkerton throughout theatres in Lombardia with As. Li. Co.
In 2005-2006 Mr. Varano was Pinkerton at Teatro Carlo Coccia, Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor in Chistro S. Niccolo and performed Galuppi’s Didone abbandonata at Teatro Caio Melisso of Spoleto in celebration of the 60th anniversary of the Teatro Lirico Sperimentale. The opera was also recorded commercially for Bongiovanni.
This past summer saw his debut as Faust in Palma de Mallorca. Giuseppe Varano also recently debuted with the Symphonic Orchestra of Milan, directed and Roberto Abbado, performing Eight Romances for Tenor & Orchestra by G. Verdi and L. Berio.
