Bass Simon Orfila was born in Alaior (Menorca). At the age of sixteen he joined the choir of the Opera of Mahón (Menorca), and eventually was invited to the School of Music “Reina Sofía” in Madrid, as a pupil of the late Alfredo Kraus.
In the 2014-15 season Simon sings William Tell in Bologna, Norma in Barcelona, Eugene Onegin in Mallorca, and and Enrico in Anna Bolena in Toulon. Most recently he was heard as Ecsamillo in Carmen in Rome, I Puritani in Bilbao, in Donna del Lago at Covent Garden, the title role of Don Giovanni in Hamburg and Oviedo, L’italiana in Algieri in Bari, Lucia in Oviedo, Roberto Devereux and the zarzuela Marina in Madrid, L’arbore di Diana in Barcelona, in Oviedo as Don Giovanni, Firenze and Menorca as Mustafa, Teatro alla Scala and L’Opéra de Paris as Douglas in La Donna del Lago. and in Pasaro in Mathilde di Shabran. Prior to that he was heard in Seville in La Vida Breve, Santiago as Mozart’s Figaro, Oviedo as Basilio, Don Profondo in Il Viaggio a Reims at La Scala, the title role in Don Giovanni in Tel Aviv, and Sarastro in Malaga, Norma in Munich, Macerata, and Berlin, Lucrezia Borgia in Las Palmas, L’Italiana in Algeri in Bologna, Socrate immaginario at La Scala of Milan, La Cenerentola at the Gran Teatre del Liceu of Barcelona, Montpellier, and Geneva, La clemenza di Tito in Torino, and I puritani in Menarca.
He has sung several roles at the Opera House of Palma de Mallorca (Don Carlo, Un Ballo in Maschera, Il Trovatore, Adriana Lecouvreur), Mahón (Die Zauberflöte, Aida), Gran Teatre del Liceu of Barcelona (Norma, Turandot in the opening performances of the theatre, Lucia di Lammermoor, Nozze di Figaro in the Robert Carsen production, Un Ballo in Maschera, I Puritani, Samson et Dalila with José Carreras, La Bohème, La Fattucchiera, La Clemenza di Tito, La Favorite, Don Giovanni, Il Viaggio a Reims, Maria Stuarda, L’Elisir d’amore, La Gazzetta and Semiramide).
